Dr. Terry Chu practices as a full time General Internist at Royal Columbian Hospital on the in-patient Clinical Teaching Unit and out-patient Rapid Access and Liver Stabilization clinics. Dr. Chu is a Clinical Instructor in the UBC Department of Medicine.
Dr. Chu completed his MD Undergraduate Degree, core Internal Medicine residency and General Internal Medicine fellowship at UBC. As the pilot fellow for the Point-Of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) fellowship program at UBC, he has a strong interest in the clinical application of POCUS and medical education.
Outside of medicine, he enjoys boardgames and Sunday long runs.

Dr. Teresa Tai practices at Royal Columbian Hospital full time as a General Internist on the Clinical Teaching Unit (CTU), the inpatient perioperative service, the outpatient General Internal Medicine Clinic, and the Liver Stabilization Clinic. Dr. Tai is a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Medicine at UBC.
Dr. Tai completed her MD Undergraduate degree, core Internal Medicine residency, and General Internal Medicine fellowship at UBC. During her fellowship, she did extra training in Hepatology and gained expertise in the management of patients with decompensated liver disease. She has a strong interest in medical education and mentorship.

Dr. Colleen Foster practices at the Royal Columbian Hospital (RCH) as a General Internist on the Clinical Teaching Unit (CTU), the inpatient perioperative medicine consultation service, and in the RCH Rapid Access Internal Medicine clinic. She also practices Obstetric Medicine at BC Women’s Hospital and Jim Pattison Outpatient Center. She is a Clinical Instructor in the UBC Department of Medicine.
Dr. Foster completed her MD undergraduate degree, core internal medicine residency and general internal medicine fellowship at UBC. She gained additional expertise in Obstetric Internal Medicine through the fellowship program at BC Women’s Hospital and the University of Calgary. Obstetric Internal Medicine focuses on the management of medically complex patients before, during and after pregnancy.
Dr. Foster has a particular interest in medical education. She is the UBC Department of Medicine DSSL for RCH and is responsible for the evaluation of medical students rotating through RCH. She is also part of the organizing committee for the annual Medical Disorders of Pregnancy conference hosted in Vancouver, BC.

Dr. Emily Lai practices as a General Internal Medicine specialist at Royal Columbian Hospital (RCH) on the Clinical Teaching Unit (CTU), the inpatient perioperative medicine consultation service, and in the outpatient RCH Thrombosis Clinic. She also works at Vancouver General Hospital (VGH) on CTU and the inpatient Leukemia/Bone Marrow Transplant service. She is a Clinical Assistant Professor with the UBC Department of Medicine.
Dr. Lai completed her MD undergraduate degree, core internal medicine residency, and her Internal Medicine fellowship at UBC. She also did additional training in Thrombosis with the VGH Hematology group. Dr. Lai started the RCH PeRiOperative Acute Care Team (PROACT) Internal Medicine consultation service in 2022 and has been the PROACT Physician Lead since then.
She is the Internal Medicine representative on the UBC Clinical Faculty Advisory Council, and the specialist representative on the Doctors of BC Clinical Faculty working group. She is the Internal Medicine representative on the RCH MOCAP committee and the RCH Facility Engagement working group.
Dr. Lai’s current research interest relates to gathering data on the impact of the PROACT service on the provision of surgical care at RCH. She hopes to publish her findings in the near future.
When she isn’t working, she enjoys travelling with her family.

Dr. Julia Zazoulina is a General Internist practicing at the Royal Columbian Hospital (RCH), where she works on the Clinical Teaching Unit, Perioperative Internal Medicine Consult Service, and the Internal Medicine Outpatient Clinic. She is a Clinical Instructor in the UBC Department of Medicine and is actively involved in teaching and mentoring medical students and residents.
Dr. Zazoulina completed her MD undergraduate degree at the University of British Columbia (UBC), followed by Internal Medicine Residency and General Internal Medicine Fellowship training at UBC. She subsequently completed a one-year Addiction Medicine Fellowship through the British Columbia Centre on Substance Use.
In addition to her work at RCH, Dr. Zazoulina practices Addiction Medicine at St. Paul’s Hospital. Her clinical roles include providing care on the Addiction Medicine Consult Team and within the Road to Recovery inpatient detox unit. Her academic and clinical interests include medical education, complex inpatient internal medicine, and evidence-based management of substance use disorders.

Dr. Ellen Miles practices as a General Internist at the Royal Columbian Hospital (RCH) on the Clinical Teaching Unit (CTU), the inpatient perioperative medicine consultation service, and the Internal Medicine Outpatient Clinic. She is a Clinical Instructor in the UBC Department of Medicine.
Dr. Miles completed her MD undergraduate degree at Queen’s University, Internal medicine residency at UBC, and General Internal Medicine fellowship at UBC. She completed a one year fellowship in Obstetric Internal Medicine through BCWH, and the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton.
Dr. Miles has an interest in Medical Disorders of pregnancy, and practices Obstetric Internal Medicine at BCWH. She is the education lead for the Obstetric Internal Medicine fellowship program at BCWH.

Dr. Alexander Wong is a General Internal Medicine physician who practices at Royal Columbian Hospital (RCH), and at other sites within the Lower Mainland with both an inpatient and outpatient component.
He completed his education and training at UBC and is now a Clinical Instructor with the UBC Faculty of Medicine and enjoys mentoring medical students and residents, including on the Clinical Teaching Unit at RCH.
He is additionally certified in Lifestyle Medicine: a multi-disciplinary specialty rooted in implementing “food as medicine” and lifestyle measures in the prevention, treatment, and sometimes reversal of chronic disease, with growing global significance.
He enjoys quality improvement work spanning multiple projects seeking to enhance patient experiences and outcomes.

Dr. Megan Shurey practices full time at Royal Columbian Hospital as a General Internist on the Clinical Teaching Unit, the inpatient perioperative medicine consult clinic, the outpatient Internal Medicine Rapid Access Clinic, and the Liver Stabilization Clinic. She also practices part time at Burnaby Hospital as a palliative care consultant. She is a Clinical Instructor in the UBC Department of Medicine.
Dr. Shurey completed her MD undergraduate degree and General Internal Medicine fellowship at UBC with a focus on chronic liver disease and palliative care. She used this training to create the Internist led Liver Stabilization Clinic at RCH which aims at decreasing admission rates and ED visits for patients with chronic liver disease.
With an interest in medical leadership and building a strong community, Dr. Shurey is the Co-Director of Wellness and Recruitment for the RCH Division of General Internal Medicine.

Dr. Tara Cessford is a General Internist practicing at the Royal Columbian Hospital (RCH) on the Clinical Teaching Unit (CTU), the inpatient Perioperative Medicine consultation service, and in the RCH Hypertension Clinic. She is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the UBC Department of Medicine.
Dr. Cessford completed her MD undergraduate degree and Internal Medicine residency at UBC. She obtained fellowship training in point of care ultrasound (PoCUS) through the Emergency Medicine program at Vancouver General Hospital. Dr. Cessford gained additional exposure to the management of resistant and secondary hypertension during her residency training, and is a Clinical Hypertension Specialist recognized by the American Society of Hypertension.
Dr. Cessford has a particular interest in medical administration and education. She is the RCH GIM Division Head and Director of the RCH CTU.

Dr. Doering completed his MD at the University of Manitoba, followed by core internal medicine residency training at UBC. He completed his general internal medicine fellowship at UBC and undertook additional specialized training in thrombosis medicine through the University of Ottawa.
Dr. Doering is a clinical instructor in UBC’s Division of General Internal Medicine. He practices at St. Paul’s Hospital as a general internist on the Clinical Teaching Unit (CTU) and as a thrombosis specialist in both outpatient and inpatient settings. He also attends on CTU at Royal Columbian Hospital. In addition, he is involved in the UBC Global Health Program and has supervised internal medicine residents in Rwanda.
