The UBC General Internal Medicine Division’s Land Acknowledgment and Commitment to Truth and Reconciliation

We, as physicians, respectfully acknowledge that the land on which we practice and serve our communities is on the traditional, ancestral, unceded and occupied homelands of the xʷmәθkʷәy̓әm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish), səl̓ilwətaɁɬ (Tsleil Waututh) and kʷikʷətləm (Kwiketlem) First Nations. We honour their enduring relationship with this land, their history, and the deep knowledge they have cultivated over generations.

As we fulfill our roles in healthcare, we recognize the historical and ongoing impacts of colonialism on Indigenous peoples, including the healthcare injustices they have faced. We acknowledge the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action (TRC 22, 23, 24) and we commit ourselves to actively addressing the health disparities and systemic barriers faced by Indigenous communities.
