Bio
Dr. Katie Wiskar is an academic general internist at Vancouver General Hospital. Born and raised in Vancouver, she completed her undergraduate degree at UBC in Biopsychology and French, where she played varsity volleyball and was recognized as a Wesbrook Scholar. She went on to complete her MD undergraduate degree and Internal Medicine Residency at UBC, where she was selected as Chief Medical Resident at Vancouver General Hospital.
Her fellowship training in General Internal Medicine was based out of UBC, and featured a year of specialized training in Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS). In this time, she spent six months at the University of Western Ontario completing their acclaimed Acute/Critical Care Ultrasound fellowship.
Dr. Wiskar is currently one of the POCUS faculty within the Division of General Internal Medicine and is the lead for the GIM POCUS fellowship. She is passionate about using ultrasound to improve clinical care, and about POCUS medical education. Particular areas of interest include whole-body ultrasound evaluation for volume assessment, advanced point-of-care echocardiography, and solid organ doppler assessment of venous congestion.
Research
Dr. Wiskar is actively involved in research in Point-of-Care Ultrasound.

- Focus on point-of-care ultrasound teaching at both resident and fellow levels
- Clinical internal medicine teaching on the Clinical Teaching Unit
